I first became involved in politics by leading a grassroots, community effort for safe playgrounds and our two new schools. I saw how bringing the community together was the way to get things done.
Together, we've accomplished a lot in four years. We've built two new schools, a swimming pool, a downtown parking deck, and a new police station. We've created a city partnership with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation which has already raised more than $250,000 to bring positive, character building programs to our city youth. We've preserved more than 4,200 acres of riverfront land that will be enjoyed by future generations.
The city can continue to prosper but we are about to enter a time of dramatic change. Spectacular plans for development and unsteady property values are on the horizon. I'll keep us strong. With your support I'll lead the council to set spending priorities and show fiscal restraint. I look forward to an even more vibrant downtown Fredericksburg with a greater economic base.
I'll continue to ask the tough questions and go the extra mile to make sure we not only get it done but we get it done right. It's been an honor and a privilege to serve you for the past four years as a member of the City Council.
I welcome that opportunity as your next Mayor.
Warm regards,
Debby
